Assignment 2 - Lens Aberration Test

Barrel Distortion
The barrel distortion is evident in the far edges of the image. As you can see the gutter is slightly distorted and the wall on the left is also bent. When we first looked through the images, it was difficult to spot any distortion. But when uploaded into lightroom and looked at closely, we could see it predominately. Also by enabeling the profile corrections in lightroom, the barrel distortion was evident even more so. The photo was taken using a Nikon 18-55mm zoom lens with an f-number of 7.1 and shutter speed at 1800.

18mm f/7.1 1/1800

(This is the jpeg version which did not display the correct distortions. We will show the raw files in class).

Pincushion Distortion
It was extreamly hard to catputre the desired effects of the pincushion distortion, even when corrected in lightroom it was hardly evident. Trying to capture the effect of this distoration in the same frame as the barrel was hard because when zoomed in, the main point of focus completely changes.

55mm f/7.1 1/1800

Chromatic Aberration

R/C - 0, B/Y - 0 before

R/C - +86, B/Y - +89 after

We found it quite hard to find a good example of chromatic aberration, so we decided to use this example that we experimented with on lightroom. As you can see it does not change the over all colour but it changes the outlines significantly.
